Our Art & Design Students in Virtual Exhibition

Prize-worthy work by KGV students is currently on display in a virtual exhibition of entries into the Sefton Young Artist of the Year competition.

KGV Student Entries

Lockdown hasn't stopped our students from being creative, instead it has seen them produce works of art now on display in a public gallery. Despite Government imposed closures of art galleries, museums, theatres, libraries and more, the Atkinson in Southport got innovative and found alternative ways to host events and exhibitions. Back in April, in partnership with The Arts Society Southport, they invited young artists aged 11-18 living in the Sefton Borough to submit one piece of artwork to their online competition.

All our A-level students have been very industrious, having had to adapt to lockdown measures, with our Art Department switching to home learning in March, teaching students remotely. Art and design tutors told us that they are "always encouraging students to enter their work into as many competitions as they can. Not only creating work but getting exposure is also important for our rising stars. Competition entries in their portfolios highlights their style, talent and dedication, which is a focus in University interviews.

We are so very proud of our students, not only the quality of their entries and seeing their work exhibited, but also with how well they have adapted to home learning. The quality of all entries is really high and we would be ecstatic if our students managed to win the prize in either (or both) of the 17 or 18 year old categories."

You can see all artworks entered into the virtual exhibition on the Atkinson’s website from 13 May – 6 June 2020. The winners will be awarded prizes donated by The Arts Society Southport on Thursday 28 May.
