Rugby is Back at KGV

We are delighted to have partnered with Southport Rugby Club to put Rugby firmly back on the agenda at KGV. Many of our students have played rugby competitively at school and are keen to keep this up when they join the college, in addition to their academic programme.

With this in mind and following the completion of our fantastic new MUGA, we have joined forces with Southport Rugby Club; and their Head Coach Neil Ryan, who also coaches the Lancashire U20 team, will be coaching our college team every Tuesday as part of our KGV Sports Academy Programme. The programme also includes football, netball, basketball, badminton and more.

The MUGA is an all-weather floodlit pitch, which makes it perfect for “after college” training all year round. Indeed SRFC themselves have also decided to hold weekly training sessions on it too!

The partnership with SRFC will not only enable our students to achieve high quality coaching and represent KGV competitively, but it is also an excellent way to help them combat stress, stay fit and make friends from different subject areas too, all such important parts of college life.

The training started last week and the team have already played their first match. We wish them every success.
