The Subsidiary Diploma in Sport provides the perfect foundation for any student interested in studying a sports related course at university. On the course, you will work with local employers and gain valuable experience to enhance and develop your CV. You will have the opportunity to be assessed in a variety of different formats, all assessments have a focus on developing both employability skills and the skills required to be successful at university. 

The Subsidiary Diploma in Sport at KGV has a balanced mix of practical lessons and theoretical content that you won’t find anywhere else! This course allows you to study sport alongside other A-Level subjects and gain essential industry experience. You will also have opportunity to gain additional qualifications throughout the course that will enhance your employability, and/or give you additional accreditation when applying for university courses.


Over the two years of your subsidiary course you will complete a total of seven units equaling one A-Level.

In first year you are likely to complete units on the Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport and Fitness Testing for Sport.

In second year you will have the chance to explore one of two preferred pathways: Coaching or Sports Science. If opting for the Sports Coaching route, you will study units in Exercise for Specific Groups and, PE and the Care of Children. If you choose to go for the Sports Science route you will look at Sports Injuries and Sports Nutrition.


Our BTEC Sport Extended Diploma Students go on to University to study a range of Sport related courses, such as; Sport Science, Sport Therapy, Sports Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Sport Studies, Sports Leadership, Teaching qualifications and many more! We have developed links with local universities such as Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, and Edge Hill University. These universities are so impressed with the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport at KGV, that they regard our students as some of their topic applicants often awarding scholarships of up to £1000 a term.
