Choose to study BTEC Subsidiary ICT at KGV and you will develop an understanding of how ICT can be used in business and in everyday life. You will enhance your knowledge and skills in a range of software and will develop an understanding of how computer hardware works. You will also develop an understanding of how networks, including the Internet, function.

This course is an opportunity to learn about real-world developments in information and communication technology and the assignments are designed to allow you to investigate, using work-related examples, how the use of IT helps organisations to function.

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in IT offers a foundation for students who wish to enhance their understanding of IT systems and want to use solutions to support their further learning.


The course has been structured to develop a broad range of skills. Two of the units that are covered (Employability Skills and Computer Systems) are mandatory and the other 4 units are cover database creation, networking and control systems using Lego Mindstors


The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma provides you with the equivalent to an A2 Level award. The Subsidiary Diploma is graded Pass, Merit and Distinction and can be used as a qualification when applying to university and gives the same level of UCAS Tariff points as an A Level. If you do not intend going to university then the Subsidiary Diploma in IT can help with securing employment or apprenticeships as most employers are looking for staff that have good/excellent IT literacy skills.
