BTEC First Diplomas

You may want to consider the BTEC First Programme if you are not happy with your GCSE grades or if you want to develop your academic skills before continuing with a BTEC National or AS/A2 programme. Students who take this step usually follow a three year programme, moving on to BTEC National or to AS levels after successful completion of a Pre-Advanced year.

This programme provides an excellent grounding in all the key skills you will need to complete your Advanced programme and to prepare you for Higher Education or employment.

For most students, we recommend a BTEC First course in Business, Media, Sport or Information Technology: these can be taken alongside any need to re-take GCSE Maths, Science or English. For other students a programme of GCSE courses may be more appropriate, though more difficult, route to advanced study. The range of GCSE courses available will depend on student interest, but Maths, English Language and Science will be included in the list offered.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PRE-ADVANCED PROGRAMME
4 D grades will qualify you for a BTEC First. Students taking a GCSE based programme should have achieved one or two GCSE passes at Grade C or above.
