BTEC PROGRAMME
BTEC

KGV College offers a wide range of BTEC courses. Our BTECs are extremely successful – we consistently achieve a 100% pass rate across all programmes, with a significant number of students gaining high grades. Our BTEC staff are highly trained, experienced subject specialists with a passion for vocational learning.

BTECs provide a practical, real-world approach to learning without sacrificing essential subject theory. You are assessed by assignments rather than exams – ideal if you find exams difficult or challenging.

BTECs give you the skills and knowledge needed to progress to university or directly into employment. In addition, BTECs also develop essential skills such as report writing, presenting, team work and time management. BTECs are highly valued by universities, employers and professional organisations across the UK and throughout over 80 countries world wide.

BTECs are inspiring and engaging - students at KGV really enjoy BTECs as they can specialise in areas of learning linked with work that they are interested in, for example sports coaching or music production.

BTEC LEVEL 3 COURSES
A range of BTEC Extended Diploma courses are available for you to choose from if you have achieved the entry requirements of at least 5 C grades at GCSE including Maths or English. Subjects you can study include:

A BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma course is equivalent to three A levels and forms the main part of your programme here but a GCSE in Maths, English or Science can be studied alongside your BTEC if required.

Our Level 3 BTECs are also available in smaller sizes allowing you to combine them with AS level subjects. A BTEC Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels, a Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to one A Level while a Certificate equates to one AS Level.

LEVEL 2
Through the 3 Year Advanced Programme (see page 8) the college offers a number of BTEC Level 2 qualifications which are equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A* to C. BTEC Level 2 Diplomas are offered in the following subjects: As a BTEC Level 2 student, you can study a GCSE in Maths, English or Science at the same time and also complete a BTEC Level 2 Award in Work Skills. If you complete your BTEC Level 2 course with a Merit or Distinction and hold a C grade in Maths or English you can progress onto one of our Level 3 courses. The majority of students who successfully complete a BTEC Level 2 course here at KGV progress onto one of our BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas.

THE ARMY FE BURSARY
In partnership with the Army, KGV offers the Army FE Bursary Scheme. This scheme provides any BTEC student at KGV the opportunity to apply for a Bursary of £1000 per year to support you through your studies in return for agreeing to join the Army for a minimum of 4 years after you have completed your course. For further information contact Neil Smith.
