KGV students have organised a variety of different charity events in the academic year 2009 – 2010; everything from sumo wrestling to a charity CD for the victims of the Haiti disaster. Here are just some of this year’s highlights:

BREAST CANCER CAMPAIGN’S - WEAR IT PINK 2009 KGV College took part in the Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘wear it pink’ with a week of events during October 2009. The college was awash with pink on the wear it pink day and students and staff enjoyed a host of pink treats including pink cakes, smoothies and milkshakes and candy floss.

A KGV Staff Talent Show was held with members of staff performing, including singers both solo artists and groups and a juggling act. Other events during the week included a Film Quiz, hosted by students and a Singstar competition which saw both staff and students belting out songs from all eras in a bid to be crowned Singstar Champion. Basketball, Table Tennis, Bench Press, 1-2-1 and Basketball challenges were held in the sports hall and fitness suite. All of the activities helped to raise over £1300 for the breast cancer awareness charities.

HELP FOR HAITI Second Year BTEC Music Technology students were so moved by the tragedy in Haiti that they wanted to find a practical way to raise money for the appeal; so, being music students, they did what they know best and wrote music! All of the students involved worked tirelessly to write and record an album in an impressive two week time period. Their CD, Help for Haiti, features a wide range of music from funk to world music and was written and performed by staff and students from the college, Students promoted the CD with stalls in the link and canteen and managed to raise over £1000 for this wonderful cause.
